One of the most commonly used accountancy software package in the UK is Sage Line 50 (now called Sage 50). As the market leading accountancy software product for small to medium sized businesses, Sage 50 helps you manage your customers, suppliers and stock, your day-to-day finances, VAT returns and year-end accounts. It helps you stay in control of your finances and, working with your accountant on the Online50 platform, leaves you free to concentrate on running your business.

In order that you do not pay for something you don't need or use, Line 50 comes in three distinct levels: Accountant (now Accounts); Accountant Plus (now Accounts Plus) and Financial Controller (now Professional). Each of these levels provides the user with access to various elements of the package with Financial Controller giving access to everything. If you simply need the ability to post invoices, keep sales and purchase ledgers, have a level of stock control, then Accountant is probably going to be sufficient. If, however, you require a little more, ie Project Costing, Bill of Materials, Cheque printing, then Accountant Plus is for you. But should you need full access to all accounting functionality including Foreign Trader, Sales Order Processing or Purchase Order Processing then Financial Controller is the level for you.

Most of our Line50 users subscribe to the service through their accountant who offers them a range of accounting services in conjunction with the Online50 service. Because the accountant and their client can both access the same software at the same time, they can work very effectively in a number of different ways. For example: the client may raise all of the sales invoices and post cash received. The accountant can maintain the nominal ledger and may provide a credit control service, always working from live up to the minute data with complete visibility of all receipts as they are posted by the client.
